'Prince Alfred', 1891

Categories:   South Coast Shipwrecks

The 56-ton ketch Prince Alfred left Sydney on 22nd May 1891, with a subsequent Marine Board enquiry concluding, ‘in good ballast trim for Mosquito Bay (near Lilli Pilli), being well found, staunch, and seaworthy in every respect, and having a crew of four…the vessel was last seen by Captain Craighead, the master of the schooner ‘Result’ on 1st June 1891 off Jervis Bay during a heavy gale of wind. Nothing has been seen or heard of the ‘Prince Alfred’ since, and there is no evidence other than the very heavy weather which prevailed at the time to account for her loss.
