South Coast NSW History Story
‘Athol Star’, 1950
The ‘Athol Star’, a 60-foot seine trawler, was travelling from Eden to Sydney when she encountered heavy seas and gale force winds on 18th January 1950. She went aground on jagged rocks at Bull Pup Beach (which supposedly was named after a vessel named the ‘Bull Pup’ was wrecked there – no other details have been found) at Murramarang, about 15 miles south of Ulladulla. The three men on board ‘climbed a cliff face to safety when the trawler struck the rocks’.
